About the Civil War Round Table of Eastern Pa., Inc.
The Civil War Round Table of Eastern Pa., Inc. (hereafter CWRT) was formed in 1978 with a dual mission:
1. Make a real difference in the fight to preserve American battlefield land and the legacy of our nation’s defining conflict.
Our battlefields serve as important, outdoor classrooms and a reminder of the sacrifices made by citizen soldiers to secure the freedoms that we enjoy.
2. Provide community members with opportunities to develop a greater understanding of the American Civil War.
The CWRT donates its membership and lecture fees, raffle ticket proceeds, bequests and other contributions to the American Battlefield Trust (formerly Civil War Trust) and several other historic preservation organizations. The American Battlefield Trust (ABT) has designated the CWRT as a Top 300 Lifetime Donor, a Color Bearer*, and a member of ABT’s 20-Year Club**.
Cash donations made by the Civil War Round Table of Eastern Pa., Inc. during one recent year, when matched with innovative grants awarded to the American Battlefield Trust (ABT), grew to $42,800.00. This money will be used by the ABT to protect battlefield land from development.
Monthly lectures hosted by the CWRT cover a wide range of interesting, informative, and inspiring themes. Past speakers have included leading authorities on campaigns and battlefields, academics who use their training and love of history to investigate often unknown or unremembered events and fighting units, and impersonators of Civil War figures. The CWRT also sponsors field trips for members and their guests, visiting places that few people ever get the chance to see. These private tours are conducted by someone who is expert on the topic or location. (Visit Upcoming Events page for up-to-date schedule of events)
The CWRT also participates annually in at least one conservation event, usually held in April and most often in Gettysburg National Military Park. This activity includes critical tasks like brush clearing (to retain the original condition of the battlefield) and maintenance activities such as fence repair and painting. Individuals, families and service groups looking for an unforgettable experience are always welcome to join us.
The CWRT operates under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code. All monetary donations are tax deductible.

*Color Bearers donate to ABT campaigns to save specific tracts of battlefield land and also give unrestricted, additional gifts of $1,000 or more every year. Numbering at around 1,400, these groups and individuals donate 50 percent of funds used by the ABT to save battlefield land from development.
**The 20-Year Club is a core group of dedicated battlefield preservationists that have supported this great cause for 20 years or more. This group’s financial support has directly led to the preservation of more than 53,000 acres of hallowed American battlefield land.
